Burda Young sweatshirt n. 6718 "husband" version

15 March 2016
Come dargli torto?
"You sewed something for everyone, but for me still nothing ..." it's what my husband told me some time ago. How to blame him? It was simply the truth. To be honest, I had already bought the fabric for his hoodie in early December because I wanted to give it to him for Christmas, but I couldn't. So, when I finished my last sweatshirt, I realized it was time to start sewing his sweatshirt.
I used the pattern Burda Young n. 6718, the same that I used for my brother's sweatshirt. This time I decided to make the view A, the version with hood and pocket. I chose the size 54 and I didn't make any changes with regard to the fit. Instead I decided to add the zipper because my husband finds this kind of sweatshirts more comfortable to wear.

I reduced the size of the hood because the original one seemed so big. I also decided to double the hood with black cotton jersey and finish the neck with herringbone taping, as explained in this post of the sew-along of SBCC Pattern for the Brooklyn Hoodie. When I bought the fabric, I didn't realize that it was not very elastic. So I had to realize, once again, the cuffs and waistband contrasting with black cotton french terry that I already had from previous projects.
A simple project like the previous ones, but I decided to pay more attention to the details. As, for example, perfectly matching the pockets after closing the zipper. But even this time it was a big help another post of sew-along of SBCC Pattern that explains precisely this step. Or, as deciding to make a little chain between the two layers of the hood. I was wondering how I could do when I read this post by Grainline Studio
I am satisfied with the result, but there is only one thing that I would go to change next time: the neckline. In my opinion (and of course according to my husband) the sweatshirt is a bit too low-cut at the neck. But I must confess that for once my husband gave me the greatest satisfaction: I finished sew thusday evening and in the morning he worn it. Okay, now I can say I sewed something for the whole family. Who will be the next?
